Introduction

Power Manufacturing Company (PMC) is currently experiencing a significant turnover rate at its plants, prompting both Plant Management and corporate leadership to take action. Concerned about the issue, they have tasked the Human Resources (HR) team with investigating the root causes. As part of this initiative, HR has developed surveys for plant employees to evaluate department leadership and assess the company’s inclusive workplace culture. These surveys aim to gather crucial data that will aid in addressing the turnover problem and enhancing leadership performance and employee engagement.

Rationale

The department leadership survey will enable HR to identify and assess key leadership skills while revealing areas that may need improvement. The questions and scaling systems are designed to gather quantifiable data regarding employees’ perceptions of leadership abilities, which will help HR pinpoint specific areas where leadership development may be required. Surveys like this are essential tools for managers to better understand what behaviors and practices are valued by employees, leading to improved leadership performance (Cox, 2019).

According to Gallup, 82% of the time, companies fail to select managers with the right talent for the job (Adkins, 2015). Engaged employees often have leadership that not only values their skills but also supports their growth and development. These surveys provide insight into leadership effectiveness and help PMC align its management strategy with employee needs.

Rationale

Diversity and inclusion are crucial for modern organizations. In recent years, companies have faced increasing societal pressure to address these issues, and PMC is no exception. Through this survey, HR can measure how well leadership and the company are meeting employee expectations for diversity and inclusion. Open dialogue and clear frameworks for handling confidential issues will foster a more inclusive environment where employees feel safe and respected (Washington & Patrick, 2018).

Without proper inclusion, the connections necessary to attract diverse talent and foster innovation are unlikely to occur. This survey will provide HR with essential data on employee experiences and help establish initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within the company (Duris, 2018).

Recommendation

HR should develop a tracking system that monitors employee demographics (e.g., race, gender, age) as well as hiring and promotion trends at PMC. This will provide insight into how diverse and inclusive the workforce truly is and help identify opportunities for improvement. Additionally, developing regular surveys will offer employees the chance to provide feedback on leadership and workplace culture, helping PMC to align its organizational goals and culture with the values and expectations of its workforce.
