Introduction

The objective of this report is to analyze my top three leadership strengths, as identified by the BetterUp Whole Person Strengths report, provide examples of how these strengths are applied, and offer insights into my leadership approach. It will also outline a personal leadership statement that reflects my purpose and values, explaining how this is backed by my identified strengths. Furthermore, the report will explore how coaching sessions can help me leverage these strengths to reach my professional goals.

Analysis of Top Leadership Strengths

Influence – I am Inspiring as a Leader

My first leadership strength is the ability to inspire and win people over. Through logical reasoning and evidence, I can persuade others to see my viewpoint. This strength allows me to build respect within my team. For instance, during a departmental meeting to discuss a long-standing process, I was able to convince several colleagues to adopt a slight change that would distribute tasks more efficiently. As a result, the process was revised, lightening the workload for everyone involved.

Feedback – I Give Constructive and Supportive Feedback

The second strength I possess is the ability to give constructive feedback that promotes growth. I understand that coaching, rather than managing, motivates people to improve. I often set clear group goals and hold regular feedback sessions, ensuring open dialogue on progress. This has proven effective in keeping the team focused and motivated towards achieving our collective objectives.

Problem Solving – I Seek Solutions to Challenges

I excel at problem-solving, approaching challenges as opportunities for growth. I am often the first to devise a plan, as seen when my previous team needed to establish an inventory system. I initiated a meeting with an inventory expert to develop a template, which successfully laid the groundwork for the entire project. This proactive approach has helped my teams overcome various obstacles.

Defining Myself as a Leader

My leadership strengths — influence, feedback, and problem-solving — are integral aspects of my communication skills. I often stand up for my ideas, ask challenging questions, and drive meaningful conversations within my organization. For example, I questioned a process in a recent meeting, initially facing resistance, but eventually, the process was refined to benefit everyone.

I also believe empathy is crucial for effective leadership. Treating colleagues with respect and recognizing leadership qualities in others fosters a positive work environment. I value leadership in all areas of life, not just at work, and aim to develop successful relationships that benefit both my career and personal life.

Personal Leadership Statement

My leadership philosophy centers on nurturing and empowering those around me. My personal leadership statement is: “I strive to create an engaging environment that fosters growth and learning by using positive influence, constructive feedback, and collaborative problem-solving to ensure a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.”

This statement reflects my core strengths of influence, feedback, and problem-solving. I focus on creating buy-in among my team, providing motivating feedback, and addressing challenges collaboratively to cultivate a space where every member feels valued and respected.

Additionally, I possess strong communication and empathy skills, which help me connect with individuals on a personal level. One of my favorite leadership statements comes from Oprah Winfrey, who said, “To be a teacher and to be known for inspiring my students to be more than they thought they could be.” Like her, I see leadership as a continuous journey and believe in the power of building trust and relationships to achieve success.

Who I Am When I’m at My Best

According to feedback from my friends, family, and colleagues, I am at my best when I am fully engaged in a project that I am passionate about. One example of this is my pursuit of education. Balancing a full-time job, family responsibilities, and schoolwork has required dedication and passion, and I put my best effort into achieving my academic goals.

My husband has noted that I am at my most focused when I am learning, and this passion carries over into my professional life. I consistently apply new knowledge to my work, which allows me to influence others and provide valuable feedback based on my experiences. My passion for learning and self-improvement is evident to those around me, and I use storytelling to illustrate my journey, helping others see the benefits of personal and professional growth.

I also enjoy problem-solving, which is a key component of my leadership style. Whether planning or organizing, I actively seek solutions to the issues at hand, demonstrating my commitment to continuous improvement. Those who know me well agree that the BetterUp assessment accurately captured these strengths.

Leadership and Coaching

Participating in BetterUp coaching sessions has enhanced my understanding of leadership and provided invaluable feedback on my strengths. My coach helps me identify areas for improvement and offers practical exercises to address leadership challenges. These sessions also foster accountability and help me develop my leadership skills in a way that benefits my team and organization.

Coaching has provided insights into how I can apply my strengths more effectively, fueling my passion for leadership. It also equips me with the skills necessary to take on greater responsibilities in the future. By committing to self-improvement through coaching, I not only enhance my abilities as a leader but also demonstrate my dedication to my team.

Conclusion

This report has analyzed my top three leadership strengths as identified by the BetterUp Whole Person Strengths report, providing examples of how these strengths are applied in real-life situations. It has outlined my personal leadership statement, highlighting how my strengths support my leadership philosophy. Additionally, the report has explored how coaching sessions are helping me leverage my strengths to achieve my professional goals.

While my leadership journey is ongoing, I am committed to learning and growing as both a leader and an individual. Through continuous improvement, I will become a more effective leader, capable of making meaningful contributions to my team and organization.
