Business Proposal Analysis

The primary focus of this proposal is to evaluate the survival strategies for Tesla’s automotive sector, particularly with regard to its individual product lines. Tesla, Inc. faces significant global quality concerns and is losing market share as a result. This is particularly evident in their handling of the Model 3, which nearly cost them their expansion into the Chinese market. According to Alvarez (2019), “The decline of share prices in Q1 of 2019 are due to issues with the delivery of Model 3 in China due to short production and deliveries being held by the Chinese government.” In addition, Tesla continues to face price cuts and social media criticism, which further damage its reputation. This proposal will analyze how Tesla can maintain its position in the electric vehicle (EV) market despite global scrutiny and whether the company could survive solely on parts and subassemblies if it ceases automobile production. The failure of Tesla to survive would have a catastrophic impact, particularly on current Tesla EV owners, as Tesla is responsible for all maintenance. This proposal, along with the accompanying strategies, data scope, and action plan, aims to provide a roadmap for using independent automotive product lines to retain market share and enhance survivability. The methods and techniques presented in this MBA program will be conveyed through an analytical report and a presentation that outlines the survival plan’s processes and deployment methodologies.

Proposal Definition

The key strategy for maintaining Tesla’s market share is addressing the quality issues in their vehicles and implementing a risk management plan to prevent future problems. Tesla has already taken steps in this direction, offering to repair defects on over 5,000 Model 3 EVs. However, this action came only after Consumer Reports retracted their recommendations due to reliability issues (Olsen, 2019). A secondary strategy considers what Tesla should do if it cannot maintain its market share. The focus here is to identify which product lines are both the most profitable and the most sustainable. The overarching goal of this project is to collect relevant data from Tesla’s automotive sector, including market share, financial information, and quality documentation. This data will help determine if Tesla can retain its current EV market share and will support the development of recommendations to assist Tesla in its efforts to survive if it cannot remain the market leader.

Strategy and Action Plan

The overall strategy for this capstone project involves gathering data from credible sources such as market reports, financial statements, customer surveys, and peer-reviewed business articles. These sources will include Tesla’s company website (Tesla.com) for general information, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for financial reports, and the Wall Street Journal for market data. To ensure the relevance and reliability of the data, it will come from sources no older than ten years for scholarly articles, five years for journal articles, and two years for market or financial reports. The action plan involves analyzing the data to evaluate Tesla’s viability without automobile production. The results will be presented in analytical reports, charts, and tables that align with client requests and support the project’s objectives.

Leadership Assessment and Application

Effective leadership is critical to addressing the business challenges Tesla faces. The skills essential to this project include a sense of control, building relationships, participation, open communication, and problem-solving (BetterUp, 2019). These leadership qualities will aid in analyzing the data, determining solutions, and communicating those solutions to stakeholders efficiently. Leadership coaching will also play a role in mentoring and addressing any deficiencies in these skills. The betterup assessment or SWOT analysis will guide leadership development and ensure a strategic approach to managing Tesla’s challenges.

Conclusion

Tesla, Inc. faces significant business challenges, and the solutions proposed here aim to help the company navigate those challenges successfully. Whether Tesla can survive in the EV market solely through parts and subassemblies remains to be seen. However, based on the strategies outlined above, it is clear that Tesla must take action to remedy its current issues and safeguard its future in the industry. This proposal meets all the necessary requirements and schedule constraints, adding value to the company. As the consultant for this capstone project, I request permission to move forward to the next step in the process.
