Introduction 

With the passage of time, technological advancement has revolutionized. The current technology has advanced to the point of providing more up-to-date data gathering tactics, retrieval, and shortage. It has revolutionized its way into the patient’s data gathering to diagnose and make progress in providing data for enhancing quality of care. Technological advancement refers to the improvement and innovation of the utility of science (Hillyer, 2020). For the past few decades, technology has been transforming societies and our day-to-day lives. It has become one of the most prominent parts of life (Scientific Research and Technological Advancements: Risks and Benefits Video, 2012). From smartphones to social media to healthcare facilities to advancements in healthcare technologies

The list of advancements in the healthcare field is long, where inventors have not only focused on providing solutions to data gathering and assessing issues but also provided help in making diagnoses, aligning medications, tracking records of health, and making sure that immediate care is available even in remote areas. The common advancements that have been famously discussed throughout literature are telemedicine, electronic health records, and remote monitoring (10 Breakthrough Technologies, 2021).

Out of all the advancements, the current assignment focuses on telehealth and wearable or remote monitoring that helps in evaluating and keeping the vitals in check while helping the patient be actively involved in the care they require. The aim of the assessment is to analyze the technology need and its relevance, while the key issues of nursing care will be discussed and the safety regulations are meant to be shared. Moreover, the sole purpose of this assignment is to provide integrated information that tackles the ethical boundaries, roles of the stakeholders, and benefits of the acquisition of technology, along with a technology-need-based analysis.

Relevance and Importance of a Needs Assessment

The aim of conducting a need assessment is aligned with the organization as well as literature, as it is a way to understand the knowledge gap and aim to find answers to the questions that were generated through that knowledge gap. Along with this, the need assessment helps in providing a perspective image of the current outcomes and the desired outcomes, allowing the organization to grow and evaluate their methods of care (Weisberg, 2019).

For the provision of effective care and ways to come one step closer to the aims and targets, the need assessment plays a fulfilling role, as it not only provides an explanation of the relevance and importance of why the change or technological advancement is required but also how it would help all the stakeholders (Taylor, 2020). Moving forward, the need assessment helps in planning and allocating the resources and funds where the change is prioritized based on the need assessment and effective measures are taken timely to promote an ever-revolving and revolutionizing environment along with the goals of the organization (Ladikas & Stamm, 2023).

The importance of the need assessment lies in the fact that it helps the organization determine the gaps, make strategies to overcome them, and train people to learn skills if there are none or are lacking. It can provide valuable insight into the organization’s processes and target areas for efficient improvement (Krick et al., 2019). The need assessment in the nursing community allows the nurses to understand and prioritize the care that is required from the healthcare sector, including what kind of technology would work, what the previous feedback was, and how much the technology can help in facilitating the quality of care. For example, in the current care, evaluating the need for telehealth or tele-medication and analyzing the benefits would help in motivating the client to use those mediums, and monitoring of the vitals and progress would be easier for the patients as well as the physicians.

Safety Requirements and Regulatory Considerations

The selected telehealth technology was wearable or remote monitoring devices that help the nurses and the patients become more aware of their vitals at any given point while tracking their health in the best way possible. Thus, many safety requirements and regulatory considerations were taken into account. Such as; 

  1. Security and privacy of data These devices collect sensitive data about the patient, including their health information or personal accounts; therefore, one of the major safety concerns that is required is ensuring the confidentiality of the data and the patient. The organization could establish software that could help secure the data.
  2. Following the regulatory standards. These devices should be FDA-approved and should be registered in the government database to ensure that, in case of an emergency or uncertain situation, that data can be easily recovered back to the patient; thus, it could help reduce the number of John Does in severe accidents.
  3. Risk management. Furthermore, assessing the risk of device malfunction, hacking, and data security breaches and developing the safety protocol to ensure that the risk has been pre calculated is one of the safety concerns.
  4. Training and education of all stakeholders It is important to teach all the stakeholders regarding the devices and how to use them, reset them, access the information from them, and, in case of emergencies, seek out help.
  5. Ethical consideration. The consent, transparency, privacy, and confidentiality of the data and the devices should be assessed and evaluated before suggesting the devices to the patient so that they can have complete trust in the process.

Patient Confidentiality and Privacy Protections

The patients raise a lot of privacy and confidentiality concerns when using the devices and remote monitoring; these concerns are mostly genuine  and require to be addressed in a proper manner. The patient’s confidentiality or privacy is one of the top priorities for telehealth technologies, especially wearables or remote monitoring devices. These concerns that require attention are:

  1. Data encryption. We see on all the technological social media apps that talk about end-to-end data encryption, such as WhatsApp; similarly, the data of the patient using such devices should be encrypted during transmission and storage to provide a sense of protectiveness in the 
  2. Two-way authentication. Like any social media, these devices should also have two-way authentication so that the retrieval process becomes more secure and the patient has information regarding who is or can access the data.
  3. Passwords. These devices can have password protections that allow patients to feel secure and private while using them in public.
  4. Direction of the usage The healthcare organization can make it possible that these wearables have a direction of being used such that only the required data should be accessed for the needed purpose. Such as access to vitals in cases of heart issues and protection of data from gynecological visits to ensure that only relevant information is shared at a given time.
  5. Consent. Gaining verbal as well as written consent from the patient helps the physician be transparent, while the patient feels autonomous in making the decision to share their private information.

Potential Impact of Internal and External Stakeholders

  • Internal stakeholders. These devices’ functionality can be assessed based on the usage and functionality of the devices as per the internal stakeholders, such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and IT people, who are in charge of assessing their durability, functionality, and security. Moreover, their suggestions can help in altering and bringing about better clinical-specific changes that would make the device more workable.
  • External stakeholder. The companies that manufactured it and the regulatory bodies that have given these devices are the external stakeholders that can help the users develop faith and credibility in the devices while ensuring that these devices are fraud-proven and backed by the organization and government databases.
  • End Users. The patients and their caregivers are the beneficiaries of the devices. Their feedback can help in the evaluation of the usability of the device, its ability to be used, and how user-friendly it is. Their feedback and satisfaction can help in estimating its applicability and efficacy in reality.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the upgraded health technology: wearable or remote monitoring devices. The need assessment allowed us to understand the need for technological advancement as being handy and easy to carry and access, while the importance and relevance showed how much these devices can help in making record-keeping and patient engagement hassle-free. While safety requirements were discussed that were meant to be looked after if the particular technology was being used, the way to protect confidentiality and privacy was discussed to help the patient become more trusted within the technology. Lastly, the impact of the technology on the stakeholders allowed us to understand how technological advancement is multidisciplinary and has an impact on everyone who is involved in the process.
