Inputs are any elements—whether internal or external to a project—that are essential for a process to move forward. This term can also refer to the outputs generated from earlier processes.

Outputs denote the products, results, or services produced as a consequence of a process. These outputs may subsequently act as inputs for future processes.

Tools are the physical items, such as templates or software applications, employed to facilitate an activity aimed at generating a specific product or result.

Techniques refer to systematic, defined procedures utilized by human resources to conduct activities that produce products, results, or services, often involving the use of one or more tools.

Project Management Process Groups

The Initiating Process is concerned with establishing the project at a high level, laying the foundation for subsequent activities.

The Planning Process involves detailing the project, including outlining methodologies that will guide the project execution.

The Executing Process encompasses the actual work required to carry out the project as planned.

The Monitoring and Controlling Process focuses on assessing and managing the project’s performance to ensure that it stays on track.

Finally, the Closing Process marks the conclusion of the project and involves transferring the final deliverables.
