This paper discusses the beginnings of a case study intended for use in a consultation psychology course, outlining three goals for professional development and consulting psychology, and emphasizing the importance of research within pertinent journals. Additionally, a case study aimed at enhancing skills in the consulting psychology space is described.

My Consulting Goals and Aspirations

This course serves as a cornerstone for future career aspirations in consulting psychology. As I progress in my career, I aim to leverage my current skills and integrate knowledge gained from this course. Articulating three goals for personal and professional growth within consultation psychology is essential. Firstly, I aim to develop skill sets relevant to this field, facilitating future consulting endeavors. Secondly, mastering the setup of consulting contracts is crucial, as highlighted by Block (2011). Lastly, leveraging my VIA character strengths survey results, particularly humor, social intelligence, leadership, hope, and curiosity, is paramount in shaping my identity as an I/O psychologist.

Researching Relevant Articles

Proficient research in relevant articles is fundamental for a consultant. Exploring topics aligned with my consulting aspirations, I encountered an article by Pelletier (2020) discussing integrating theoretical approaches to enhance relationship building, ethical behavior, and authenticity, vital aspects for an I/O consultant. This article also explores various leadership styles, providing valuable insights for future reference.

Description of a Case Study

The case study focuses on developing a self-sufficient leadership program within the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City, addressing the challenge of fragmented operations across its seven agencies. The goal is to create a comprehensive leadership development program encompassing all agencies under one initiative. With support from organizational leadership and collaboration with frontline managers, the program aims to identify emerging leaders and provide additional training to existing leadership teams, potentially benefiting over 70,000 employees.

Conclusion

Embarking on the journey to become a professional consultant requires dedication and perseverance. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply my developing skills within the MTA and through coursework. With support from stakeholders and dedication to continuous improvement, I am confident in my ability to achieve success in the field of consulting psychology.
